Talking Point

Is this the end for the Spice Girls?

Pop has lost a large dose of flavour with Ginger's departure from the Spice Girls' menu.

Fans have been left reeling at Ginger's (otherwise known as Geri Halliwell) decision to leave the band.

Pop pundits have begun speculating: Is this the end of girl power? Or has it merely blown a fuse?

Baby, Scary, Posh and Sporty are "saddened" by the loss of their friend. They have vowed nonetheless to battle on.

"We are here to stay," they say, with typical zest.

But many fans are sceptical. They say Ginger had the bounce, the get-up-and-go that drove the band on. "As far as I'm concerned if Geri goes, the Spice Girls go," suggested one.

And with her departure comes more than just new routines. Showbiz lawyers say that the group's multi-million pound contract was "watertight". For Geri to disengage herself from it could therefore cost all the girls dear.

Ginger says she is sure the Spice Girls will continue to be a success without her.

What do you think?

Some comment so far:

Geri had all the personality and I cannot imagine the band lasting more than six months without her...
Sandra Dell, UK

I always thought Ginger let the line-up down so I am glad she is off...
