Indian heatwave deaths

Reports from India say another one hundred people have died in the blistering heat wave, raising the number of deaths to more than eight hundred in two weeks.

The Press Trust of India news agency said the latest deaths occurred over the weekend as temperatures approached record levels of almost fifty degrees in the states of Orissa, Rajastan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

The agency said local hospitals were overflowing with people suffering from heat stroke.

Weather forecasters say relief is on the way, with the first showers of the monsoon season expected in the south.
