Hong Kong waves Chinese flag

The education authorities in Hong Kong are launching a major campaign to promote a greater sense of Chinese patriotism in schools.

To persuade schools to fly the Chinese national flag, the authorities are installing flag poles at schools that don't have them.

A special television programme is also to be broadcast twice a day for a week on flag-raising ceremonies.

Some schools did raise the British flag before the handover to China almost a year ago.

In the run-up to the anniversary the BBC correspondent in Hong Kong says the campaign is the latest sign of the government's determination to promote Chinese identity and culture.
