Egypt offers to mediate in Ethiopia-Eritrea dispute

Egypt has offered to help mediate in the border dispute between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

The Egyptian foreign minister, Amr Mussa, said his government would do everything to assist efforts by Djibouti, Rwanda and the United States to secure a settlement.

But the BBC East Africa correspondent says Ethiopia is refusing to negotiate until Eritrean troops withdraw from the disputed zone.

The row escalated this month when Ethiopia accused Eritrea of occupying the zone.
