Five hundred students are detained in Seoul

About five hundred students have been detained by police in the South Korean capital, Seoul, during a series of demonstrations over the weekend.

There were sporadic clashes and hundreds of people fled into Seoul's underground railway system after being chased by riot police.

The protests were the latest in a wave of social unrest over widespread job layoffs, blamed by companies on the current economic crisis.
