Polls close in Lebanon

No shortage of campaign posters for voters in the city of Tripoli

People in Lebanon have voted in the second stage of municipal elections which began last week.

On Sunday almost 2,000 council seats and more than 150 mayoral positions were being decided in the north of the country.

Officials results are expected on Monday.

During the first round of voting, in the Mount Lebanon area, the Christian opposition and the Shi'ite group, Hezbollah, defeated government-backed candidates in many municipalities.

Voting in Beirut and the south - except the Israeli-held area - will take place in the next two weeks.

They are the first municipal elections in Lebanon for 35 years.
