Police from Britain and Spain have broken up a counterfeiting operation in eastern England which they say was producing large amounts of high quality Spanish currency.

A statement said six people were arrested and about one million dollars worth of pesetas seized.

The operation followed a two-year investigation, mostly along southern Spain's Costa del Sol, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands -- areas frequently used by British tourists.
