Thousands demonstrate in Seoul against job cuts

Thousands of workers and students have held a demonstration in the South Korean capital, Seoul, against continuing job losses.

The mainly peaceful protest is the latest in a wave of social unrest prompted by cut-backs and other measures taken to fulfil the terms of the IMF's rescue package for the South Korean economy.

A two day strike earlier this week was declared illegal by the government and prosecutors say more than one hundred and forty union activists are to be prosecuted.
