Suffolk detectives believe their Website will help catch criminals by delivering footage of crimes to as wide an audience as possible.

The site also includes photofits and details of appeals.

Suffolk police admit there is a risk the site will become cult viewing for people who simply want to watch real crimes being committed.

Crime victim Gary Nordon: any new development must be good (10")
Inspector Mark Cordell said: "We hope that will not happen. We are very concerned about using crime as a form of entertainment. We want people to assist us in identifying offenders and to keep Suffolk safe."

The move has been welcomed by the BBC's Crimewatch programme which has already demonstrated the success of broadcasting live footage to the public.

Among the first pieces of film on the Website is of two people robbing a post office on the outskirts of Ipswich.

Gary Nordon, who runs the post office, said: "Any new development such as this is very good. It will probably catch some people in the long run."
