Kosovo Albanian leader to hold more talks in United States

The main ethnic Albanian leader in Kosovo, Ibrahim Rugova, is to hold more talks in the United States today as he meets the Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, to discuss the conflict in the province.

Earlier he met President Clinton, who urged ethnic Albanians to continue their peace talks with the Serbs.

A White House spokesman said President Clinton had expressed concern that Serb forces were resorting to what he called large-scale, indiscriminate violence in Kosovo.

The talks come after renewed fighting between ethnic Albanian separatists and Serbian security forces.

Albanian sources said the Serbs launched attacks on five villages south west of the Kosovo provincial capital, Pristina.

There were also reports of fighting in the border region between Kosovo and Albania near the village of Decani.
