Bolivian police arrest suspected French art-trafficker
Police in Bolivia have arrested a French national, Dominique Scobry, on suspicion of trafficking in stolen works of art. They say they found more than one-hundred-and-sixty colonial paintings, thought to have been stolen from churches across Peru and Bolivia, in his apartment. His landlord, a Peruvian diplomat, Pedro Diaz Vargas, is also under suspicion, but has already left the country. The paintings are now in the hands of the Peruvian embassy in La Paz, while investigations continue. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
