Lottery winner arrested after party

Nigel Gardner-Hale won the National Lottery in January
A lottery millionaire has been arrested after a drink and drugs party at his home in south Wales left two people in hospital.

Police and ambulances were called after two guests collapsed from suspected drugs overdoses at the all-night party thrown by £3m winner Nigel Gardner-Hale at his home in Maesteg.

A man, 19, was critically ill on a life support machine but was later described as satisfactory.

The second man has been discharged from hospital and is due to be interviewed by police.

Ex-RAF engineer Gardner-Hale, 30, was arrested along with two other guests at the party.

More than 60 people turned up for the party at Gardner-Hale's £300,000 home in Maesteg.

Neighbours say it was the latest all-night bash at the house since divorced Gardner-Hale moved in after scooping £3.4m with a lucky dip ticket in January.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said: "We received a 999 call that two people at the house were unconscious."

"They were both taken to hospital."

Police launched an investigation and confirmed drugs were involved at the all-night party.

Tests are being carried out to determine what drugs were involved.

Neighbours say there has been a spate of late-night parties thrown by Gardner-Hale at his detached Cerdin House in Llwydarth Road, Maesteg.

Mr Gardner-Hale confirmed he was released on police bail after being arrested for alleged possession of marijuana and allowing drugs to be used in his house.

But he claimed trouble was caused by a dozen gatecrashers at the party.

"It was the third all-night party I have thrown at the house and it will be the last," said Mr Gardner-Hale.

South Wales Police confirmed that detectives are investigating the circumstances that left the 19-year-old man from Swansea in a serious condition in hospital.

A spokeswoman said three men and a woman from South Wales have been arrested and released on police bail until the New Year while inquiries continue
