Ortega accused of death threats

Two former members of the Sandinista movement in Nicaragua have accused the former Sandinista president, Daniel Ortega, of carrying out a campaign of death threats against them.

Carlos Guadamuz and Miguel Angel Casco have filed a lawsuit, stating they had both received threatening anonymous telephone calls which they claimed were directed by Mr Ortega.

Both were close associates of the Sandinista leader for many years until breaking with the party. Mr Ortega is facing separate allegations of sexual abuse by his step-daughter, Zoilamerica Narvaez.

He is protected from prosecution by parliamentary immunity.
