Bangladesh reinforces frontier with Burma

Bangladesh has sent reinforcements to the border with Burma and put its troops there on alert.

The moves follow reports that Burma has been deploying extra troops and laying landmines along the border.

Local journalists on the Bangladesh side of the border say the Burmese actions may be linked to an increase in insurgent activities.

But Bangladeshi security officials say they have no knowledge of any activity in the area.

They add that Bangladesh does not allow any foreign insurgents on its territory.
