Madonna is to perform on Top Of The Pops

MTV award-winner Madonna will perform on Top Of The Pops for the first time in two years, the BBC has announced.

Next Friday's programme will see the 42-year-old mother of two sing Don't Tell Me, the second single from her album Music.

A spokeswoman confirmed the singer would be recording the show next week.

It will be her first appearance on British TV since the birth of her son Rocco in August.

Madonna's British TV appearance will follow her triumph at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Stockholm on Thursday.

She was named best dance act and best female performer, beating off stiff competition from the likes of Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez.

Curtain-raiser

The TOTP performance will also be a curtain-raiser for the singer's first British concert for seven years.

She will appear before a crowd of about 3,500 invited guests and competition winners at the Brixton Academy in south London on 28 November.

Madonna is spending ever more time in the UK since beginning her relationship with British film director Guy Ritchie.

Earlier this month it was reported that she had bought a house in London's Notting Hill for about £6.9m.

The last time Madonna appeared on Top of the Pops was to promote her single The Power Of Goodbye in December 1998.
