Divorce law changes anger India's Christians
Christian leaders in India have criticised the government not consulting them on plans to make divorce easier for Christian women.
The cabinet decided on Thursday to introduce a bill in the next session of parliament allowing Christian women to ask for divorce on the grounds of adultery alone - as Christian men can. Until now Christian women have had to cite additional reasons - such as cruelty, bigamy or desertion. Representatives of both the Catholic and Protestant churches said they were not entirely against the changes but objected to the arbitrary way they had been presented.
