Cholera kills 34 in South Africa
Health officials in South Africa say thirty-four people have died after an outbreak of cholera in Kwazulu Natal province. They say more than five-thousand people have been infected. The officials say recent heavy rains have been contaminating rivers with human waste, making it difficult to control the spread of the disease. Cholera causes severe diarrhoea in victims who die through shock from loss of fluids. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
