Russian nationalists surrender in church tower
Three Russian nationalists who blockaded themselves into an eight-hundred-year-old church tower in the Latvian capital, Riga, have surrendered to police. The three, who were members of a Russian communist group called the National Bolsheviks, had threatened to blow up the one-hundred-and-twenty metre high tower of St Peter's Church, in Riga's old town. They are reported to have called for the release of four members of their group who were detained two days ago after illegally entering Latvia. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
