US operation appeal success
Nick Harvey
Nick Harvey first developed a brain tumour in 1994
A Cardiff man has been successful in his appeal to raise the money to fly to America to undergo treatment for his brain tumour.

Former hairdresser Nick Harvey has already undergone two operations in the UK.

But now doctors here say there is nothing more they can do.

Mr Harvey, 37, has been offered a new kind of treatment called radio-surgery in New York.

Dr Gil Lederman at the Staten Island University Hospital has examined Mr Harvey's MRI scans and believes he can help.

Free flights

Family and friends organised fundraising events and have helped raise around £35,000 in six weeks.

The surgeon is offering the treatment at a reduced fee and Virgin Atlantic are giving him free flights.

Mr Harvey said he hopes to fly out in the next three weeks, when nursing help has been arranged.

The hospital has already helped a woman patient from north Wales with a tumour.
