Police block off Mexico City district
Hundreds of police have blocked off a large area of a working class district in Mexico City Tepito after violent clashes with shopkeepers and residents late on Thursday. Schools remained closed today Friday and no traffic has been allowed through the area. The protests were against earlier police raids in the area against drugs and contraband goods. Several people were injured and about 20 others were arrested. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
