Fujimori: I won't go home

The disgraced former Peruvian president, Alberto Fujimori -- who's still in Japan on a private visit -- has said he will not return home to Lima, even if prosecutors demand he goes back for questioning over corruption allegations.

Mr Fujimori told reporters in Tokyo he had no intention of returning at the moment because -- as he put it -- the conditions were not appropriate.

But he said he would answer questions if the Peruvian prosecution team came to Japan.

Investigations are currently underway in Peru into Mr Fujimori's dealings with his former intelligence chief, Vladimiro Montesinos, who's accused of corruption and other offences. Mr Fujimori arrived in Japan two weeks ago, as the storm grew at home over the allegations against Mr Montesinos.

He tried to resign as president, but the Peruvian congress refused to accept this, insisting instead on sacking him as morally unfit to govern.
