Drought in Brazil will get worse

The authorities in Brazil said the severe drought in the northeastern region is likely to worsen in the next few months.

Officials said up to ten million people risk going hungry this year as crops fail because of the drought which is blamed on the El Nino weather phenomenon.

Tonnes of food which has been donated from other regions is being sent to the area.

A special convoy of about forty trucks is expected to arrive in Pernambuco state tomorrow Saturday.

It is being escorted by the Brazilian army to prevent looting.
