Algeria,Morocco cautious on border reopening

Morocco and Algeria have pledged to work towards reopening their common border which has been closed for the past six years.

After talks in the Moroccan capital Rabat, the Moroccan and Algerian interior ministers, Ahmed Midaoui and Noureddine Zerhouni, spoke of a step-by-step approach to normalising their relations.

They said this would culminate in the reopening of the border, which was closed in September 1994 after an Islamist armed group, composed mainly of Algerians, attacked a hotel in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh.
