Friday, May 29, 1998 Published at 10:47 GMT 11:47 UK World: Africa Hamas founder in Sudan The founder of the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, is in Sudan, on the latest leg of his tour of Arab and Muslim nations. He was welcomed on his arrival by the parliamentary speaker, Hassan al-Turabi. He described Sheikh Yassin as the pulse of the Islamic jihad for restoring the rights of the Palestinian people. An Israeli newspaper (Yediot Aharonot) reported yesterday (Thursday) that Sheikh Yassin had raised fifty-million dollars for Hamas during his current tour.
