Hizbollah attacks Israeli patrol
Lebanese Hizbollah guerrillas say they have attacked an Israeli military patrol in the disputed Shebaa area. A Hizbollah statement said the group had detonated a number of explosive devices targetting a military convoy. There's been no official word from the Israeli army, but some Israeli reports spoke of a small explosion which caused no casualties. Israel, which withdrew from southern Lebanon in May, says the Shebaa area is Syrian land and that its future is linked to final peace talks with Damascus. However Lebanon and Syria insist it is Lebanese. Last month, Hizbollah guerrillas seized three Israeli soldiers in the same area. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
