Twenty-six officials forced to retire
The High Court in the western Indian state of Rajasthan has sent twenty-six of its officials on compulsory retirement because of what it called their unsatisfactory performance. The High Court said the decision had been taken after close scrutiny of the officials' service record. Seventeen of those dismissed were working as district and sessions judges. Lawyers associations have welcomed the sackings, saying they will help to deter corruption. There's been no response yet from those who've been sacked. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
