Council strike: Around Scotland
Binmen
Some refuse is lying uncollected
This is how the third one-day strike by Unison local authority members in Scotland is affecting services around the country.

City of Aberdeen: Virtually all nursery classes closed, as are some day care centres and special needs facilities.

Museums, art galleries and some libraries are also affected.

Similar picture in Aberdeenshire and Moray. Peterhead Academy is closed.

Dundee: Some housing offices had to close and some social work services were disrupted. The main effect was on the city's libraries, half of which had to close.

East Lothian: Thousands of wheel bins are lying unemptied. But a council spokeswoman said that from Friday, the collection of rubbish from commercial premises such as shops, pubs and hospital will resume.

Edinburgh: More than 90% of primary and secondary schools in the city are open. Refuse collection and street cleaning services are not affected. Many other council facilities including area offices and libraries are closed.

Fife: A number of primary schools across the region are closed, but all secondaries remain open.

Glasgow: Most council offices closed, most libraries closed. Some leisure facilities closed, some schools.

Highland: Emergency only cover on the Corran Ferry and the Camasnagaul Ferry in Lochaber.

Waste collection affected, with delays and some possible cancellations.

Householders are asked to put extra refuse in plastic sacks and put those out next Thursday.

Other facilities may also be affected and at Alness Academy, secondary years one to three have been given the day off.

The council has cancelled its housing committee meeting scheduled for Thursday.

Inverclyde: Public relations office closed by industrial action.

Midlothian: Unison say every school in Midlothian is closed except for those with pupils sitting prelims. 75,000 tonnes of rubbish is lying on the streets uncollected as the indefinite strike by refuse collectors enters its third week.

Moray: Minor disruption.

South Lanarkshire: Fifty-eight of 124 primary schools closed as are 11 out of 21 secondaries.

All nurseries and residential homes are operating along with critical cover for infirm. Apart from that, all council services affected.

Stirling: Public relations office closed by industrial action.

Western Isles: Some disruption to services, with Stornoway Library and Nicolson Sports Centre closed.

Most other council services should be unaffected.
