"Thirty minutes of news and comment..."

There's a new edition of Britain's leading news programme each weekday at 1300 BST.

  Wednesday's programme ...

The murder of Damilola Taylor on a squalid estate in Peckham, South London has focused attention once more on inner city social exclusion.

What's changed in the past 20 years on the estate where Damilola bled to death ? And should we trust politicians who tell us they can end deprivation ?

We hear from the scene, from long-time residents and campaigners, from the Government and from the Bishop of Southwark.

What is Michael Portillo up to ? He couldn't mean it when he said he didn't want to be Tory leader.... could he ?

And the Government's desperate efforts to push its Transport Bill through the House - including the controversial part privatisation of air traffic control through the Lords.

Was Lord McDonald "misremembering" when he insisted that privatisation was a clear election policy - virtually obliging the Lords to end their opposition to it. We go back to the archive.

  Tuesday's programme ...

Are the trains the new petrol ? More travellers are delayed for longer - the Shadow Strategic Rail Authority warns MPs it could be twenty years before the trains here match those in mainland Europe.

But the PM says - get it sorted by Christmas. We find out whether that can happen. And whether public patience will snap before then.

Dutch MPs vote on legalising Euthanasia - we hear the arguments there - and ask, is it time for our MPs to legitimise what some doctors here argue is a dignified way of ending painful lives.

  Monday's programme ...

Tax - would you pay more if you knew where the cash was going ? We explore the ideas behind "hypothecation".
