Wife of murdered Russian general sentenced
A court in Russia has convicted Tamara Rokhlina, the widow of General Lev Rokhlin, of murdering him. The court, in Narofominsk in the Moscow region, sentenced her to eight years in jail. General Rokhlin was shot and killed at his country home in July 1998. The murder weapon, the general's own pistol, was found near his home. Correspondents say General Rokhlin was one of the few senior Russian officers to emerge from the first Chechen war with his reputation enhanced. He then became a prominent critic of the Russian government. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
