More trouble during Egypt's parliamentary elections
Reports from Egypt say two people have been killed in clashes on the last day of voting for parliamentary elections. The trouble in a village north of Cairo was said to have started when voters who'd been prevented from entering polling stations threw stones at security forces, who responded with bullets and tear gas. Clashes were also reported in two constituencies in the Cairo area. The run-off polls are the final stage of parliamentary elections which have been taking place over the last four weeks. The ruling National Democratic Party has an overwhelming lead in the elections so far. Judges have been monitoring voting at all polling stations in an attempt to stop irregularities which have marred previous elections. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
