Nepal business voices security fears

Business leaders in Nepal have called for the government to do more to protect their enterprises after recent attacks by Maoist rebels on shops and other commercial ventures in the capital, Kathmandu.

Although there have been no injuries or significant loss of property, the Nepalese business community says the attacks will discourage domestic and foreign investors.

The BBC correspondent in Kathmandu says the rebels have intensified their violent campaign to overthrow the constitutional monarchy after the failed attempt at peace talks last month. More than fifteen hundred people have been killed in the four-year-old insurgency which aims to replace the monarchy with a Communist republic.
