Limahl in crash drama
Kajagoogoo
Limahl (centre) shot to fame in 80s group Kajagoogoo
Eighties pop star Limahl is recovering after escaping the wreckage of a coach crash on the M6 near Birmingham.

The singer, 41, who found fame with the band Kajagoogoo, was on his way to a show in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, when the accident happened.

Limahl, real name Chris Hamill, said he and his fellow passengers first knew something was wrong when they heard a loud bang and the vehicle began to fill with thick, black smoke.

"It was truly terrifying... we were coughing and screaming to get off. We thought it was about to explode," he admitted.

Firefighters and police were quickly at the scene, helping passengers to safety. No one was hurt in the incident.

The concert the singer had been due to take part in - at High Wycombe's Swan Theatre - went ahead as planned.

Limahl shot to fame in 1983, when Kajagoogoo scored a No 1 with their debut single, Too Shy.

The band followed it up with a string of Top 30 hits but never matched the success of their first release.

Limahl's musical career is currently enjoying a revival.

He is taking part in an 80s tribute tour, performing songs from films and shows such as Dirty Dancing, Footloose and Mama Mia.

Rose Royce singer Gwen Dickey, who was also on board the coach when it caught fire, is performing alongside him.
