Cheggers confirms secret wedding

TV presenter Keith Chegwin has confirmed that he has married his long-term girlfriend.

The 43-year-old, who fronted a Channel 5 gameshow in the nude earlier this year, wed Maria Felden in a secret ceremony near their home in Newbury, Berkshire.

"I am overjoyed. We have been promising to marry for ages but we wanted to keep it a secret... I couldn't be happier, she is a great girl," he said.

The couple first met when Maria, 34, started work as a horse groom for Chegwin and his first wife, fellow TV presenter Maggie Philbin, 15 years ago.

The It's A Knockout host pledged to marry her on live television in 1997.

The couple, who have a two-year-old son, Ted, honeymooned in Florida.

"We both love escapism and games and rides, so where better to go than Florida," he said.

Chegwin, who divorced Maggie Philbin in 1993, is currently filming a new series of It's A Knockout for Channel 5.

His recent appearance wearing nothing but a pith helmet as he hosted Channel 5's Naked Jungle in June sparked controversy and debate in Parliament.

But complaints against the show, also featuring naked male and female contestants, were rejected by the Independent Television Commission.
