Cricket scandal raids in India

Investigators of the Indian CBI agency have raided premises in five cities to seek evidence relating to alleged multi-million dollar corruption in cricket broadcasting.

The CBI alleges irregularities in the way the national broadcaster Doordarshan granted telecasting rights for some tournaments, including the 1996 World Cup, to private companies.

Raids took place in Delhi, Bombay, Lucknow, Bangalore and Calcutta.

Offices and homes searched include those of some top officials of Doordarshan and some private TV companies, including Worldtel.

Officers also raided the home of a former chairman of the International Cricket Council, Jagmohan Dalmiya.
