26 killed in Peru crash

Police in Peru say twenty-six people were killed when a truck carrying farmworkers and villagers crashed on a main road in the south of the country.

Witnesses said the driver lost control of the truck, which was carrying passengers and livestock, in the Puno region in the early hours of Monday.

The passengers were on their way to attend festivities in a nearby town.

The injured were taken to two hospitals in Peru's second city, Arequipa.
