thousands attend Austrian fire memorial service

Thousands of mourners have attended a memorial service in Austria for the victims of last week's train fire in a tunnel at the ski resort of Kaprun.

Relatives of the one-hundred and fifty-five dead were joined at Salzburg Cathedral by the president, Thomas Klestil, the chancellor, Wolfgang Schuessel, and his German counterpart, Gerhard Schroeder. Ambassadors from Japan, Britain, the United States and the Netherlands also attended. The cause of the mountaint accident -- Austria's worst -- is still not clear, but President Klestil said no effort would be spared to find the cause of the disaster. The service was led by Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn and broadcast live on Austrian and German television.
