Hill drives on with Jordan

Damon Hill has pledged future to troubled Jordan team

Former world champion Damon Hill has given Jordan a major boost by vowing to stick with the struggling team.

Hill has said wants to help the outfit through this season's crisis - just days after boss Eddie Jordan said he would not blame Hill if he walked away.

The Silverstone-based team were set for further talks this week having failed to score a point in the opening six races of this season.

Jordan's campaign his rock bottom in Monaco last weekend when Hill and team-mate Ralf Schumacher could only qualify 15th and 16th and were outperformed by the unspectacular Minardi of Shinji Nakano in the race.

"It's important to keep our morale up at a time like this," said Hill, who finished two laps adrift in Monte Carlo. "I'm committed to doing whatever's necessary. But, however it is achieved, we all as a team have to be better.

"Monaco was the low point of the season. I have to hope we have bottomed out and that we can start heading back up again.

"I wasn't able to make any impression on anyone in the race and it's just getting worse and worse. It's not been very glamorous this year."

The 37-year-old Dublin-based Hill joined Jordan in a £4.5m one-year deal for this season with an option on another year.

Though even if he wanted to leave, the 1996 champion knows his options for 1999 are likely to be limited.

Hill has been linked with a move to North America and the Rahal Champ Car team, though speaking in Autosport magazine this week he hinted his future remains in Formula One.

Team chief Jordan said after Monaco that changes would have to be quickly made, although he added he could not fault the commitment shown by Hill and Schumacher in trying to come to terms with a difficult car.
