Bus collision in Pakistan
Map of Pakistan showing Multan
Police in Pakistan say 35 people have been killed in a collision between two buses.

The accident happened near Jehanian town about 40 km (25 miles) south of Multan in Punjab province just before 0900 local time.

Police say at least 20 people died on the spot, with 15 others succumbing to their injuries later.

Four seriously wounded people were taken to hospital.

A passenger on one of the buses who escaped with minor injuries was quoted by the French news agency as saying that the driver had swerved to avoid a cyclist.

"It was all screams and confusion as passengers struggled to get out through doors and windows," he said.

The agency quoted a police official as saying that the accident was due to "overspeeding and reckless driving,"

There have been a number of serious road accidents in Pakistan over the last year - most of them involving buses.

Last month, at least 40 people were killed and 75 injured when a bus swerved to avoid a donkey.
