South Africa and France have signed an agreement on defence cooperation, which covers sharing information and exchanging staff.
The South African Defence Minister, Joe Modise, said at the signing ceremony in Cape Town that the agreement would give South Africa's defence industry access to new technology and markets.
France introduced major changes in its policies towards Africa last year, moving towards the development of links with all African countries and shifting the focus away from its former colonies.
