Indian president starts official visit to Nepal

The Indian President, KR Narayanan, is in Nepal on a three day official visit -- the first by an Indian President in twelve years.

Mr Narayanan was greeted in the capital, Kathmandu, by demonstrators carrying black banners with messages denouncing India's nuclear tests.

Nepal has expressed its concern over the tests.

Officials described the visit being made at the invitation of King Birendraas a goodwill trip aimed at improving economic ties and friendship between the two countries.
