Is the dream over?

Ian Wright contemplates his future

Ian Wright is facing the most crucial 48 hours of his international footballing career after suffering a hamstring injury in the first half of England's 1-0 win over Morocco in Casablanca.

Wright - only recently back in action after a groin problem - was desperate to put on an impressive performance during the game, to stake a claim for a place in coach Glenn Hoddle's final 22 for France.

But the decision may now be taken out of Hoddle's hands.

Hoddle has refused to be drawn on whether or not Wright's World Cup is over and says that a scan on Friday will go a long way to making up his mind.

"The good thing is that after the game Ian is not feeling as bad as when the injury first happened," Hoddle said.

"People ask me how long he's going to be out and all I will say at this stage is let's wait and see. I am not prepared to say whether he is out or in.

"I am not making a decision on my World Cup squad until June 1, so I would be silly to do that with regards to Ian, as things stand."
