Kenya resumes relations with Libya after eleven years

Kenya is resuming diplomatic relations with Libya after a break of eleven years.

Relations between the two countries were broken off in 1987 after Kenya accused Tripoli of aiding Kenyan dissidents and instigating unrest in Kenyan universities.

A Foreign ministry spokesman in Nairobi said that the decision to resume relations was based on the fact that both countries are members of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organisation of African Unity.

He said the two countries were now working on ways to re-open their respective embassies.
