Goalless at half-time

England went in goalless at half-time against Morocco in Casablanca after an uninspired performance from both sides.

But the real worry for England came when Ian Wright was forced to come off with an injured knee midway through the opening 45 minutes.

England coach Glenn Hoddle faced another injury scare when Wright's replacement Michael Owen needed lengthy treatment after colliding with goalkeeper Driss Benezerki.

The 18-year-old Liverpool striker was attempting to latch on to Graeme Le Saux's through ball.

The game got off to a bizarre beginning when the music for the English national anthem went missing. England captain Paul Ince, who passed a late fitness test, led the players in a stirring rendition of the anthem without musical accompaniment.

England began sluggishly and Paul Gascoigne in particular was caught in possession on several occasions.

Morocco threatened several times in the opening 10 minutes, before England's back three asserted themselves.

England's first meaningful attack came after 10 minutes when Ian Wright held the ball up on the edge of the area for Darren Anderton to cross. But the danger was averted when the impressive Saber headed clear.
