Police have reinforced security in the Nigerian city of Lagos following street battles between rival groups of Muslims in which at least twelve people, including four policemen, were killed.

The violence lasted several hours.

Witnesses said the rioters fired bows and arrows as well as guns at police, who intervened to quell the violence.
