BBC journalists detained in Yemen

The BBC has confirmed reports that a three-man television film crew is being detained by the authorities in Yemen.

The crew, who include the BBC's regional correspondent Rageh Omaar, was held overnight in the capital, Sanaa.

The journalists had just returned from filming in a remote region where a British family was recently kidnapped and held by local tribesmen for three weeks.

A British embassy spokesman in Sanaa said the journalists do not appear to have been given permission by the government to visit the area; the spokesman said the matter should be resolved soon.
