US cuts Cambodian election aid

Diplomatic sources in Phnom Penh say the United States has told the Cambodian authorities that it will release only two-point-three-million dollars out of a seven-million dollar donation for the Cambodian elections in July.

The Americans are reported as saying they have serious doubts about whether the elections will be fair, and say the aid can only be used to support non-governmental agencies, voter education and election observers.
