African Development Bank meets in Abidjan

The African Development Bank begins its annual meeting in Abidjan in IvoryCoast today to discuss the continent's economic performance.

It will also be dealing with controversial proposals for the bank's non-African members to inject more capital to allow it to expand its activities.

In exchange, these countries, mostly from the developed industrial world, want more influence in the Banks's voting arrangements.

In its annual report the bank says that overall, African economies grew by three-point-seven percent; however, almost half the continent's population still lives in absolute poverty, on less than a dollar a day.
