Taiwan to re-draw maps of China

The Taiwanese government says that maps of China in educational textbooks will be re-drawn according to the names and administrative zones used by the Beijing government.

Until now maps printed in Taiwan have been based on the names and administrative boundaries used by the Nationalist government which ruled China before the Communist revolution in 1949.

Taiwanese officials say the move is part of attempts to improve relations between the two countries.

China considers Taiwan to be a renegade province.
