Eritrea's demobbed fighters eye border dispute with Ethiopia

Demobilised fighters from Eritrea's long war of independence have been holding meetings over the past few days in response to the continuing border dispute with Ethiopia.

So far the meetings have been held at regional level but on Thursday a gathering is planned in the stadium in the capital, Asmara.

A BBC correspondent in Asmara says the government is trying to distance itself from the meetings, but it's not clear who else would have organised them.

The Eritrean government has repeatedly said it seeks a peaceful solution through mediation to the territorial dispute which broke out earlier this month.

Trade and communications between the two neighbours and former allies has been sharply reduced.
