Shortages in north-east India as result of blockade

Shortages of essential goods have been reported in north-east Indian state of Manipur after a second day of an economic blockade imposed by two Naga tribe organisations.

Truck drivers refused to transport goods to the state after police said that Naga supporters had attacked more than seventy trucks travelling to Manipur.

The Nagas imposed the blockade in protest over the creation of a district in Manipur dominated by people from their rival Kuki tribe.

The Nagas and Kukis have fought an eight year ethnic war.
